MISHAWAKA (Fri., Dec. 1, 2006) – The Clinton Christian boys basketball team scored the game’s first 13 points and coasted past First Baptist 81-31.
In Chad Schrock’s first game as coach, the Couriers never trailed to extend their winning streak to 25 games. Todd M. tallied a team-high 22 points. Caleb M. added 12, Carl M. and Cory M. 11 each. Dustin Y. finished with 10 points in his first varsity game.
WATERFORD MILLS (Sat., Dec. 2, 2006) – Bethany Christian senior Kenyon L. scored all of his seven points in succession as the Bruins rallied to take a 51-47 lead in the fourth quarter en route to a 60-53 victory over the visiting Clinton Christian Couriers.
With a 20-point effort in the second quarter, the Couriers led 31-23 and appeared poised to take a 2-0 lead in the series started in 2005. Six-foot-two senior Seth G. unloaded for 10 points in the third but Joel K.’s two free throws gave the Couriers a 43-42 edge at the break. Carl Martin’s bucket with 5:33 remaining in the game gave the Couriers their last lead at 47-44.
Todd M. paced the Couriers with 21 points, 11 of those in the second period. Caleb M. added 10.
The Couriers, now 1-1, visit Fort Wayne Canterbury Friday in the second game of the Canterbury Tourney. The consolation game is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday followed by the championship at 10:45. Other teams in the tournament are Adams Central, located in central Adams County north of Berne, and Miami Valley, a private school from the Dayton, Ohio area.
