Jesus was born 2,000 years ago but He still lives in His people. Have you seen Him this year?
I’ve seen Jesus this year in new friends who have come along when I most needed them. I’ve seen Jesus in my parents who sacrifice many hours to care for the people of their church. I’ve seen Jesus in handicapped people whose simple faith is a strength, not a weakness. I’ve seen Jesus in my two-year-old niece whose joy for living reminds me that being a follower of Jesus should be anything but dull.
I’m sure that I can’t name all the ways Jesus continues to impact my life. Sometimes, it’s through the Bible, nature or a thought planted by His Spirit. Jesus is still here. I hope you weren’t so busy that you missed Him.
While this year has included heartache, confusion and frustration, I have also experienced much joy, spiritual growth and personal growth. In June I turned 30. I don’t feel old but I have found a greater desire for personal and spiritual growth this year. Every time I try to do things my way, my life seems to spiral further out of control. I’m trying to allow myself to follow the biblical command to “lose this life.” Why do I insist on being self-sufficient?
Recently, I have begun teaching Sunday school for the 5th and 6th grade boys at church. It’s a new experience for me but I’m looking for serving in this way. I’m also evaluating how I can better balance serving and learning so I don’t burn out. I think it’s such a shame to see people burn out when they have so much more to give.
On the work front, I have just completed six months at Miller Brothers Builders in Goshen. My coworkers are great but I have a lot to learn about construction. I enjoy drawing elevations and site plans and putting together submittals (a compilation of plans and specs sent to the state for approval of codes). I’m not as fond of putting together estimating (pricing) templates. I guess that’s the hard part of serving.
As you look back over this past year and look forward to a new one, don’t forget to see Jesus wherever you go. Like He changed the lives of the shepherds and the wise men, he wants to change your life. I love you all and wish you a fun-filled Christmas bubbling over with His peace and joy.
