In my American history college course, I am required to keep a history journal. The following account is my entry for today, November 4, 2008. (By the way, after carefully evaluating the issues and the tenor of the campaigns, I split my ticket and voted for Obama for President of the United States.)
I voted for the fourth time today. I have now voted in three presidential elections and one local election. The only presidential election I did not participate in was the dramatic 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore.
From my first voting experience as an absentee voter as a 20-year-old college student to today, I have counted it a privilege and a civic responsibility to vote. Nonetheless, I have never evaluated and weighed the issues as much as I did this year. With the continuing growth of candidate websites, I was able to find the stances of most candidates on the key issues. The only difficulty came in determining why some state judges should be retained.
My interest in this election is greater than ever because my friend and local school administrator Carlin Y. is running for state Senate. In the local race for state representative I am also familiar with Independent Vince T. Both men have been heavily involved with Bashor Children's Home and actively care for the local community. I believe they would both be men of integrity in these key positions.

Benj,
I'm glad you voted and I think in the presidential race you made an outstanding choice. You were history today--congratulations.

I was so proud that my home state went for Obama that my face nearly split from smiling. Thanks for helping to make Indiana go Democrat for the first time since LBJ! (Do I have the right former president?)
