Martin joins top ten, Couriers top two foes

MIDDLEBURY (Fri., Jan. 12, 2007) – Todd M. scored nine points on three three-point field goals during a 16-5 third-quarter run as the Couriers dumped Trinity 47-34.

Thirteen days after losing to the Titans on a free throw at :00, the Couriers found themselves in another close game. Defense dominated on both sides in the first half with the Couriers emerging with a 21-18 lead at the break.

Todd was held to six points in the first two periods before exploding in the decisive third quarter. His 20 points vaulted him into tenth place on the school’s scoring chart with 724 career points.

Caleb M. added 12 points for the 7-3 Couriers. Mike D.’s 13 and Nick S.’s 8 led Trinity (7-5). Starters scored every point in the game until Trinity’s Matt K. tallied three points in the waning minutes of the game.

WINONA LAKE (Sat., Jan. 13, 2007) – The Couriers gradually increased their lead every quarter in a 69-56 win at Lakeland Christian.

The Couriers had won 61-34 two weeks earlier but the Cougars put up one of their best offensive efforts of the year this time around. The Couriers responded with their third-highest single-game total of the season.

Caleb M. paced the Couriers (8-3) with 20 points and eight rebounds. Todd M. chipped in 17 with seven assists while junior Spencer M. tallied a career-high 11. Senior Kenny F. dropped in 20 points, sophomore Damon W. 16 and junior Jason M. 13 for the homestanding Cougars.

Chad Schrock’s Couriers try for a fourth-straight win when they travel to Grace Christian of Watervliet, Michigan Saturday. The Patriots (6-2), members of Division IV of the Michigan High School Athletic Association, are winners of four straight and play a conference game at home Friday.
